Description

This piece was composed in 1977, and dedicated to Grover Allen. It requires numerous extended techniques: tremolos, glissandi, flutter-tonguing, air sounds into and away from the instrument, singing, singing, while playing, timbre changes, quarter-tones, key-slaps, multiphonics, and pitch and rhythm indeterminacy. Instructions and fingering suggestions are provided. Three strata; one of playing the bassoon, one of humming or singing, and one of key-slap percussion effects are combined and contrasted in an often complex and challenging atonal polyphony. The notation is primarily graphic. According to the score, this work may also be played on the contra.
