Description

Composed for Thomas Elliott, the music uses standard atonal techniques, but with some pitch centricity. The first movement emphasizes successive triadic structures as the title suggests, while the second features tritones and P4 intervals. The third movement uses the 013 trichord almost exclusively; the number three being a ubiquitous part of the form, motive, and even the name of the movement. The final movement is a theme and variations, employing a twelve tone row that is often segmented into trichords. This challenging piece covers the full range up to D5, and uses only one extended technique, several tremolos.
