Description
These pieces, by arguably Venezuela’s best-known composer and guitarist, originally for the guitar, were transcribed by Paquito D’Rivera. This music has a lighter and more “popular” Latin American flavor than Francisco Mignone’s well-known 16 Valsas para Fagote Solo (while only ascending to high C), combined with the polyphonic textural implications to be found in music for the guitar. Some of the pieces employ numerous rapid leaps of two octaves or more but they tend to lie fairly well for the fingers. The topmost note is C5. The arrangemens are very well crafted; challenging but very idiomatic in the manner of a cello suite by Bach, and fun for player and listener alike.
