Description
This piece was composed in Baltimore in 1975 for James Bolyard, in memory of Isaac Hollins. It was a winning composition in the 1977 IDRS Composition Contest. The atonal music is angular and rhapsodic, and essentially through composed. Several extended techniques are called for, including pitch bending (called microtonal glissandi in the score), vibrato manipulations and multiphonics. The latter may be chosen by the performer, although those played Mr. Bolyard are included for reference. The music is moderately challenging, and the top-most pitch is B4.
