Description

This piece was composed in 1975 in Wilton CT for Leonard Hindell, and dedicated to Antonio Frasconi. The music is atonal (serial) and angular. Sections in strict rhythm alternate with others that are more rhythmically free, giving the piece a strange unity as easily recognizable large interval classes in the tone row appear in different guises. The music is challenging, with an overall effect similar to that of the composer’s electronic pieces. While the music can ascend to F#5, an alternate passage leaves the upper limit at Eb5.
