Description
The first piece was composed “For my Father, Samuel and my Mother, Rachel,” and the second “For Simon Kovar.” The music is atonal and primarily cell based, and emphasizes the lyrical qualities of the bassoon. The music is only moderately challenging, and the range extends only to B4. Isaiah is actually excerpted from the composer’s symphony with the same title. In the symphony the solo is scored for bass clarinet. Yizkor, meaning “I remember,” is the memorial service honoring a member of the immediate family. It is incorporated into the Hebrew liturgy during the four high holidays.
