Description
According to the composer, Colored Stones tells the story of the three stones listed above.
“Some cultures and spiritual practices believe these stones have powerful qualities such as the ability to heal, protect, and offer spiritual guidance. The bassoon explores these beautiful stones' unique qualities.”
The piece was selected as the winner of the 2014 Bassoon Chamber Music Composition Competition and was premiered by Susan Nelson. It was also a competition piece for the 2016 Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition and Bassoon Symposium. The music is moderately challenging, somewhat pitch centric, ascends to D5, and is very motivic.
