Description
Composed in 1938 and dedicated to Kjell Roikjer, this rather conservative tonal piece features a lyrical theme in Aeolian mode that extends upward to B4, followed by 14 variations and a coda. The variations cover considerable ground, including waltz, march, and scherzo. This moderately challenging piece was probably the first piece of unaccompanied bassoon music composed in the 20th century.
