Description
Written in 1951 and dedicated to fellow composer Rolf Liebermann, the music employs traditional forms and atonal serial techniques, the latter based on a pitch matrix rather than on row transpositions and inversions. The piece is challenging, with considerable technical demands, although the top-most pitch is only Bb4. It was a required piece for the 1984 Gillet Competition sponsored by the IDRS, and was also included in the Markneukirchen 2006 International Bassoon Competition.
