Description

This piece was commissioned and premiered by Ben Hoadley at the 2004 IDRS Conference in Melbourne, Australia. The title comes from the Maori language, and means “for a breath from the past.” This challenging composition spans the full range up to Eb5 and for the most part features fairly short musical gestures, some lyrical and some quite florid. Many extended techniques are called for, including multiple tonguing, timbral trills, tremolos, pitch bending, multiphonics, glissandi, winging while playing, microtones, with some theatrics at the end.
