Description
This music was commissioned in 1981 for Don Christlieb by the Klimt Foundation of Sydney. He premiered it in Los Angeles in January of 1982. This challenging piece spans the full range up to Eb5, and is based on three different atonal melodic ideas that are introduced in the first three movements. Extended techniques are used frequently, and include vibrato manipulations, flutter tonguing, timbre changes, glissandi, quarter tone pitch bending, foot taps, multiphonics, and tongue and key slaps. Clear instructions are provided. Movement VII is to be performed with a mute.
