Composed in 1977, and included in Zeitgenössische Musik für Fagott solo edited by Dieter Hähnchen, this piece is based on practices of the Japanese No theater. Suggested fingerings for many of the extended techniques and are provided, taken from Bruno Bartolozzi’s seminal book, New Sounds for Woodwind (London: Oxford University Press, 1967) and/or Sergio Penazzi’s Metodo per Fagotto (Milan: Ricordi. 1972), but these are not always reliable. Be prepared to experiment.
