Description

This piece was composed in 1976 for the annual Paris Conservatory Concours. The music is pitch-centric and characteristic of the mid-century style of composers such as Milhaud and Satie. A rather angular and sardonic theme is followed by six very imaginative variations, culminating in a challenging tarantella. Considering the nature and purpose of this piece, it is not as daunting as might be imagined, and ascends “only” to Eb5.
