Description
This piece was composed in 1999, and dedicated to Martin Krafft. This is a very challenging, if not unplayable, atonal composition that is written over two staves with extreme, and extremely rapid, register changes. Numerous extended techniques are employed, including quarter-tones, vibrato manipulations, flutter-tonguing, tremolos (sometimes over more than octave), multiphonics (with fingerings provided) and glissandi. The range extends to G5. The movement between the two strata creates a very angular and sometimes pointillist polyphony that is rhythmically and metrically complex, both to perform and to hear.
