Description
This piece, a virtually unknown work by a prominent composer, was composed in 2000 for Carrie Smelser. The music was conceived in the south of France and completed in southern California; hence the title. The music is predominantly atonal, albeit with occasional tonal inflections. The overall conception is lyrical, even when lines are disjunct. It is moderately challenging and, although the upper register is not used much, the music does ascend to B4.
