Description

This piece was composed in 1970, and dedicated to William Waterhouse. The compositional style is neo-Baroque and pitch-centric. The music is a light parody of a Baroque dance suite. The “Waltz” for example, with its frequent duple feeling, is humorously lopsided in its gait. The music is challenging, ascends to E5, and is one of the mainstays of the unaccompanied repertoire. It was a required piece for the 1984 Gillet Competition sponsored by the IDRS, and was also included as a second round piece in the Markneukirchen 2006 International Bassoon competition.
