Description
This piece was composed in 1989 and is pitch-centric and based on traditional Turkish modes (makam). Extended techniques are limited to glissandi and an extensive battery of quarter and eighth-tones. Fingerings are provided, but performers might need to alter them somewhat. All but the lowest fifth of the range is used, although the lyrical first and third movements favor the upper register, up to C5. This is a challenging but very rewarding piece for the performer willing and able to invest the time and effort it requires.
