Description

This piece was commissioned in 1969 by the National Council for Culture and Art to help fulfill a need for original Israeli compositions for wind instruments, especially for examinations and competitions. It was dedicated to Mordechai Rechtman. The music is atonal and challenging, with a 12-tone row employed in its prime form only. There are seven increasingly florid variations on the row theme, and a concluding statement of the theme itself, one octave higher and much louder. The full range is used up to Eb5.
