Description
This piece was composed for Bram van Sambeek, in preparation for a subsequent bassoon concerto. It is very challenging, with numerous trills and extended techniques: pitch bending, flutter tonguing, timbral trills, glissandi, vibrato manipulations, multiphonics, and multiphonic trills. The music is atonal and largely rhapsodic, often juxtaposing harsh and aggressive low register passagework against a lyrical high register. This “high register” ascends to G5!
