Description
The very angular and somewhat pointillistic first movement (as if to suggest the sudden random appearance of the familiar fungus) was composed in 1973 and revised in 1986. It is based on small atonal cells and features much rhythmic variety. A second more lyrical and pitch-centric movement was added in 1990, and the entire piece was dedicated to David Miller, who premiered it at the IDRS Conference in 1990. The range extends up to D5. The music, particularly the first movement, is challenging.
